Anxiety Disorder Phobia - Symptoms and Treatments for Anxiety or Panic AttacksBy Lonnie L. Widler
Anxiety and panic disorders are behavioral conditions, not illnesses. Prescription medications can alleviate the symptoms but not free you from them. Anxiety is caused by an awareness of danger or threat, and everyone experiences it. For people who experience normal anxiety the organ that controls anxiety, the amygdala, switches off and on as needed. But for those who have anxiety attacks the amygdala doesnt switch off, it stays on all the time. The first step in learning to control anxiety panic attacks is to believe that you have the ability to take control. The body responds to the messages sent by your mind. Even if the situation is totally safe but your mind interprets it as unsafe your body will respond to what you think. Positive thoughts can control your physical symptoms. Anxiety disorders are widely treated with drug therapy alone, or combined with Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Most of the drugs used to treat anxiety disorders are highly addictive, and the symptoms of anxiety attack return when the drug is withdrawn. Other drugs can be more effective in treating anxiety symptoms and have less severe side effects. Herbal remedies can be an effective form of anxiety treatment. Valerian and passion flower are especially effective when used together, and have properties that aid in insomnia. Pennyroyal, linden, St. Johns wort, motherwort and wood betony are just a few other herbs that are used for their calming effects. Kava has been widely used and proven to decrease anxiety attacks and symptoms, but it has also been linked to liver malfunction and diseases, particularly hepatitis and cirrhosis. Diet, nutrition, and exercise are successful methods of treating anxiety attack symptoms. Avoiding sugar and caffeine, eating more whole grain foods, fresh vegetables and fruit are also an effective treatment. Physical exercise gets the heart pumping, increases blood circulation and burns calories. Relaxation exercises and deep breathing can be effective when you have panic attack symptoms. Listening to music, reading, or working on a hobby are other methods of creating a relaxing atmosphere. About the Author: Lonnie L.
